Chiang Saen: The Golden Triangle and Wat Chedi Luang

Today we have a very long trip, from Chiang Rai we go to the Chiang Saen and go to the golden triangle, and then we continue to Doi Tung the home of the mother queen of Thailand and later at night we went to Mae Salong the small but loveable village.

After morning breakfast, with private drive we take a round trip. First stop is the random stupa in Chiang Saen. This city have many old chedi, and the Wat Chedi Luang was my first stop. I randomly thought about this chedi has some kind of connection with the Mojokerto Candi's. The building was using red brick, it built in 14 th century and it has same Buddhist.

This town is quiet in the bank of Mekong River. The Wat Chedi Luang is also quiet, with some renovation in the Buddhist temple beside this Wat. This Wat is construct with red brick to build a stupa. Stupa is symbol the body of Buddha, so you can take around while praying some mantra. Inside the stupa that may be some of Buddhist relic or religious object. I remember once, in Wat Doi Suthep that they give you the mantra while walking. I always take a walk, it also like the kora by Tibetan Culture.

After short visit to this lovely Wat, we went to the Golden Triangle. We won't see any triangle at all, what we see was crossover river.It need imagination to appreciate this area.. This point owned by three country, and as you stand in Thailand you can see both of Laos and Myanmar. So with imagination and a little to fool yourself this place was awesome, take Rambo and Khmer Army and Lao Army with the drug gangs. Imagine how scary that was!   

Uphill there is small wat, and the view of that crossover river. This little wat was the place for us to take a little ciam sie. All my friend have a good number and I rather to forget it. It bad omen which actually never happen. Actually this is not the only golden triangle. The next one has many monument and statue. This point is has big Buddha statue, the Guan Yin statue also has cheap Thai ice tea.

How to go: Chiang Rai is the main point, actually you can do day trip to the Golden Triangle. You can rent car or you can take the songkhew to Chiang Saen.
